Weights Before Cardio Or Cardio Before Weights? | Day #56 WellFit 365
Structuring Your Workouts Effectively – Ever Wondered Which Is Best?
A) Weights Before Cardio? OR
B) Cardio Before Weights?
My recommendation: Perform resistance training first for optimal results.
– Research has shown that you will get the best body composition results from performing your resistance training prior to your sprints or aerobic training
– This makes sense if we are training for increased muscle strength or size as we are able to exert maximum force during our weights as our muscles aren’t under fatigue from previous training.
– Researchers compared the performance of intervals prior to resistance training, following resistance training and also in the middle of the resistance training session.
– Results showed that the cardio results were similar for all groups indicating that the order does not effect results from cardio training.
– Respiratory exchange rate was lowest in the resistance training first group which means that more fat was used for energy. When intervals were performed first, more Carbohydrates were used for energy rather than fat.
– Research also supports that muscle gains and strength development are greater when performing your weights before your cardio.
