Split Squats – A MUST For Your Legs | Day #40 WellFit 365
Why You Should Be Doing Split Squats
Split squats are a great exercise and should be a part of everyone’s training regime.
Split squats are excellent at correcting structural imbalances that can cause pain and injury.
They help you balance your agonist and antagonist muscles such as your hamstrings and quads and also balance your left to right side. Structural balance requires both balance between muscles on the same side and also muscles on opposite limbs.
Split squats with added weights also work your trunk or “core” muscles really well.
Split squats can also improve patellofemoral pain due to the fact they produce the optimal ratio of strength from the vastus medialis and the vastus lateralis. These 2 muscles go either side of the knee and imbalances here can cause your patella to track improperly, which creates pain and irreversible cartilage damage.
Advanced lifters will also get great benefit from walking lunges and jumping lunges.
