Personal Training Studios VS Gym-Based Personal Trainers
The main goal of personal training is to provide a healthy dose of motivation and instruction. A major reason for not having success or meeting your desired goals with a personal trainer may not be the actual personal trainer, but the setting. There are two basic choices when it comes to seeking a personal trainer: gym-based personal trainers and personal training studios.
Gym-based Personal Trainers
Gym-based personal trainers are trainers who work out of a gym or health club. To be fair, most personal trainers have the best of intentions. It’s just a matter of how their services are offered. A personal trainer working for a health club of gym usually isn’t working for you, but for the gym or club. This often means they have to devote time to all members who happen to be there at any given time. Many gym-based personal trainers tend to be either under-qualified or spread too thin in terms of the attention they can give you.
Gyms are a great place for aspiring personal trainers to start their careers because they usually have a good support network to build their client base up. i.e. Facilities, marketing for new clients, uniforms etc.
Gym-based personal trainers can be just fine under the following circumstances:
– You’re already in shape and have a good basic routine
– You need minimal assistance with just a few pointers here and there
– You don’t workout on a regular basis and just need some general tips
– You are happy to be trained by somebody less experienced (this is a generalised condition, there are some gym-based personal trainers who really do know their stuff!)
Personal Training Studios
Hiring a personal trainer in a private fitness studio changes the dynamic. First of all, the big difference is the phrase “hiring a personal trainer.” Unlike a gym or health club, a personal trainer at a private studio is getting paid to give you the personal attention and support you need. Private trainers also tend to be better qualified to be personal fitness trainers since their whole business is built around their expertise in fitness training & health. They can also offer routines that are specific to you, as opposed to general workouts. Additional benefits of hiring a private trainer through personal training studios include:
– Better weight loss and muscle gain
– Better overall fitness results, including learning techniques that get results
– More personalized attention
Most people seeking the assistance of a personal trainer have fitness goals they would like to achieve. An effective personal trainer takes this into account when recommending routines, sets, and reps. A personal trainer who is not busy running from one person to another is going to have more time to give personal attention that gets results.
Gyms are great for building the skills of aspiring personal trainers early in their careers. Many of the fitness professionals at Wellfit Personal Training have come from a gym-based environment and have grown to become the fantastic private personal trainers they are today.
When weighing up your options, Wellfit believes that a private personal trainer is the better option for those serious about achieving their fitness and weight-loss goals. (Okay, okay, we ARE being a little biased!) 🙂
