Mechanical Drop Set For Shoulders (Overload Technique No.2) | Day #85 WellFit 365
What is a Mechanical Drop Set & Why Should You Try Them?
In this video, I explain the theory behind a mechanical drop sets as an overload technique and demonstrate a good one for your shoulders. I also explain the benefits of including mechanical drop set technique within your resistance training program.
A mechanical drop set is where instead of making the weight lighter, we change our movement to an exercise that has greater mechanical advantage. This allows us to perform more reps, keeping a muscle under tension for longer.
These are one of my favourite progressive overload techniques, in particular this shoulder set.
In this mechanical drop set, choose a weight that allows for a set of 10-12 reps on lateral raise, then immediately go in to front raise for 10 and then again straight in to dumbbell overhead press.
Rest for 2-3 minutes between each full set and repeat 3-4 times.
This creates a great burn in the shoulders and requires very little loading on the joints.
