Is Spot Fat Reduction Really Possible? Day #23 WellFit 365
In today’s video I dispel the common myth about spot reducing body fat. It is a very common belief that we can reduce fat from the specific areas of the body that we are exercising. The truth is, fat distribution is a genetic trait that we can’t change.
Quick Answer: Spot Fat Reduction is NOT possible.
That is, you cannot choose which areas of your body to burn fat from.
So if spot reducing body fat is out of the question, what should you do?
What is needed is to increase our body’s metabolic rate so that we expend more energy thoughout the day than we intake. This can be achieved through moving on a daily basis. It doesn’t have to be hours and super high intensities. A great place to start is 20mins of walking a day. Once you feel comfortable doing this, then you can increase duration and intensity.
We can support this by eating a well balanced diet, avoiding high energy foods such as sugary drinks and take-away meals. The main goal with this process is to be consistent as possible. Your results will be reduced through eating well one day and bad the next.
This also shows that gimmick ab machines are truly a waste of money and your energy is better diverted to an activity that uses your whole body and gets your heart rate up.
