Indoor Group Fitness Training VS Outdoor Bootcamps

Which Group Fitness Training Format is Best?
My short answer to this question is “Both can be great, so it depends on your personal preferences & goals”.
In this article, we aim to compare the benefits of indoor group fitness sessions, as opposed to outdoor bootcamp fitness training. Both have their benefits, but you may be suprised to learn the effect this decision can have on your long term results.
The first obvious issue with outdoor bootcamps in Newcastle is the weather. Unfortunately, the Summer of 2011/12 was one of the wettest on record in New South Wales, which means that many people found it tough to enjoy training consistently outdoors.
I have found it frustrating, as I’m sure many others have, because the poor weather really limits your ability to train consistently. The other problem with outdoor bootcamp training is the cold weather during Winter, which can be both demotivating & dangerous if you haven’t warmed up properly.
On the other hand, everybody loves getting out in the sunshine on a nice warm day to exercise. Especially when you live in a beautiful coastal city like Newcastle. Outdoor fitness training can also allow personal trainers to organise more running exercises out in the open, which for many people is a great thing.
A key factor in deciding between outdoor bootcamp training & indoor small group fitness sessions is your own personal preferences with group sizes. Many bootcamps in Newcastle are run with in excess of 20 people at any given session. This is fantastic for people who love training with a large group of people and don’t need much supervision, but can also be counter-productive if you are a person who enjoys the personal attention & supervision associated with smaller group fitness sessions.
Novacastrians are extremely lucky, because there is an abundance of fantastic Personal Trainers in Newcastle & the Hunter region. There is plenty of great outdoor bootcamp sessions being run during the Summer on many of the beaches and of course there is a wealth of fitness expertise available all year round in Newcastle Gyms & Indoor Personal Training Studios across the town.
If you’re looking to find a personal trainer or bootcamp in Newcastle, I would simply recommend that you consider the following factors so that you make the right decision for your own personal preferences & fitness goals:
- Indoor Group Fitness Training allows for better consistency, because there are no weather issues
- Outdoor fitness training, or ‘Bootcamp‘ style training sessions provide a fun environment for people who love the outdoors
- Indoor Fitness Studios normally have a great range of training equipment, which allows for a wide variety of exercises
- Outdoor Bootcamps can be held on the beach, which means you can take a refreshing dip in the ocean after your session!
- Indoor group training can eliminate the chance of wasting money on outdoor sessions that have been ‘washed out’.
So in conclusion, both indoor & outdoor personal training have their pros and cons. Maybe the ideal training environment is a mixture between indoor & outdoor exercise activities?
Anyway, I hope you find this article helpful in deciding what is best for you and your fitness goals.
